Dan

Meet Daniel, Technical Outbound Specialist

Daniel knows what it’s like to give back to his community. He is a member of a non-profit group called Lift Your Spirits Performing Arts, a local theatre group in Pennsylvania. Daniel is the Art Director for the group and is in charge of set design, poster design, lighting design, and special effects, among other responsibilities. He has also recently added “actor” to his list of duties, which requires him to devote more of his time to this group—nearly every night after work.

The money raised by the group’s shows is split with the venue where they perform, whether it is a church, a hall, or local theatre. The rest of the money is donated to other local charities. For the 2007 holiday season, they raised over $300 for the Long Term Care Center of Saint Catherine’s Medical Center in Ashland, PA. After the Saint Catherine’s staff informed the group that a favorite gift of the residents is lottery tickets, Lift Your Spirits Performing Arts surprised each resident with five dollars in lottery tickets as a Christmas present. Daniel said, “Since it was Christmas time, we didn’t just give them the tickets, we placed them in cards and gave them out as our group sang Christmas Carols and also gave the patients a visit from Santa Claus himself. This was one of the many things that we do as a group to help our community.”

Statton

Meet Statton, Senior Director of Legal and Business Affairs

Statton has been a volunteer with a local organization called Greater DC Cares for the past 17 years. Greater DC Cares is the leading coordinator of volunteering and corporate community investing in the Washington, D.C. region. In addition to serving on the organization’s Board of Directors, he has also served as a Project Leader and a Project Manager, and has led volunteer teams to fix Washington, D.C. public schools, plant trees to preserve the Chesapeake Bay watershed, fixed meals for the homeless, and built playgrounds for children in poor neighborhoods. As a Board member, Statton works to ensure that Greater DC Cares continues to succeed at what it does best, strengthening communities by connecting those who have resources, with those who do not.

Statton describes his enthusiasm for Greater DC Cares in this way, “I choose to work with Greater DC Cares because the impact this organization makes in the community is real and measurable. I volunteer because I strongly believe in a statement by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Albert Schweitzer: ‘One thing I know; the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve others.’”

Jacy
Meet Jacy, Quality Coach

Jacy enjoys giving back to her community through Big Brothers Big Sisters. She has a nine year-old little brother named John that she spends time with once a week. Their time together is spent going out to dinner, hiking, mountain biking, going to the park, bowling, or enjoying other activities. When asked why she enjoys being a big sister to John, Jacy replied, “I think it’s important because I am able to be a positive role model to him and I am able to take him places that he may not be able to experience otherwise. It is very rewarding to know that I am helping to make his life a little better.”
